Terra Cotta Facade Highlights 512 West 22nd Street in NYC
The removal of the construction scaffolding reveals this stunning facade of glass and terra cotta.
512 West 22nd Street is a new-build commercial office space designed by COOKFOX Architects featuring a glass and anthracite glazed terra cotta facade manufactured by Boston Valley Terra Cotta. The building’s form evokes the long history of industry in the Chelsea neighborhood in New York City. Using a combination of terra cotta and glass, the curved facade demonstrates the capabilities of multiple architectural mediums and how they can work together. The building fits in nicely among the surrounding architectural features; once completed, outdoor gardens will be added to the terrace and roof to contribute to the area’s ecosystem, pioneered by the Highline.
In the previous blogs we’ve shown the in factory mockup and the initial revealing of the facade. The installation of extruded terra cotta units continues on the building’s exterior as well as the ongoing interior construction.

The terra cotta facade is being revealed more and more as installation progresses.

The scaffolding is in the process of being removed as the exterior is installed.
