Schofield Building Receives Award of Excellence in Exterior Restoration
Awards Held at The 2016 CRS-AIA Celebration of Preservation Awards Program in Cleveland, Ohio
The Cleveland Restoration Society and AIA Cleveland will be awarding The Schofield Building the Award of Excellence in Exterior Restoration at the CRS-AIA Celebration of Preservation Awards Program. Boston Valley Terra Cotta worked hard to recreate the ornate red terra cotta that had long been covered by an unsightly 1960’s metal façade. This hidden gem was designed by Levi Schofield (Scofield), a prominent Cleveland Architect and sculptor.
The newly restored building houses the Kimpton Schofield Hotel and 52 luxury apartments on the top floors. Part of the Kimpton Hotel group, this boutique hotel is rich with character, reflecting the history of Cleveland and more specifically, the history of the Schofield building itself.
The images below show the original terra cotta details that had been hidden under metal since the 1960’s. As soon as we get some photos of the completed project, we’ll post them here.
