BUFFALO, NY – Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Herd About Buffalo public art program with a commemorative auction. More than 30 Western New York artists have partnered with Roswell Park to each create a custom, one-of-a-kind buffalo, inspired by everything from sports to public art to Buffalo’s rich history.
The buffaloes, which were manufactured and donated by Boston Valley Terra Cotta, measure in at 18-by-12 inches and have been decorated with a variety of mediums, including paint, mirrors, fabrics and more.
“It’s amazing to see the WNY art community come together in a unique way to support the thousands of cancer patients who turn to Roswell Park every year for treatment,” said Sally Russell and Colleen Burns, co-chairs of Herd About Buffalo. “We are excited to bring local artists and Roswell Park together again to celebrate WNY and raise critical funds for cancer care and research right here in our backyard.”
“We are always delighted to assist Roswell Park in any way, shape or form, especially when it involves ceramic buffaloes! We are truly thankful for the partnership we share with this remarkable institution,” said John Krouse, Boston Valley Terra Cotta chief executive officer.
Herd About Buffalo was a unique collaboration between Roswell Park and the Burchfield-Penney Art Center in 2000. The public art exhibition showcased the talent and creativity of local artists and served to foster pride in all Western New Yorkers. After a brief showcase, the buffaloes were auctioned to benefit Roswell Park.
Bids can be placed on the 20th Anniversary Herd About Buffalo auction online at www.AllStarNight.org/auction beginning Sunday, November 15 until Friday, November 20. The starting bid for all buffaloes is $500. All proceeds benefit help fuel cancer research at Roswell Park.
