Boston Valley Terra Cotta was contracted to manufacture the terra cotta for the restoration of The Dymocks Building, in the heart of Sydney, Australia. Also known as “The Block”, the building has maintained its purpose as a retail center since it’s constructed in 1926. Often considered architect F.H.B. Wilton’s best-known building, the unique design is an excellent and well-preserved example of the multi-story retail arcades built during the 1920’s.
Utilizing a gray, granite-colored terra cotta, the Dymocks Building is a model example of Interwar Commercial Palazzo architecture – a focus on large structures with stone clad exteriors and multiple rectangular windows. Today, the grand structure supports over 120 boutique retail stores and businesses in jewelry, fashion, wedding, health, and personal well-being.
