Boston Valley’s Custom Glaze Shines on Pacific Gate Terra Cotta Wall
Progress continues to be made on the Pacific Gate Condominiums in San Diego, California designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox’s (KPF) New York office. The terra cotta wall pieces were recently shipped west and installed on site (see photo below). Boston Valley Terra Cotta developed a custom gold luster glaze that imitates the warmth of the setting sun. The space directly beneath the wall will be a water feature reinforcing the golden sun motif.

The golden terra cotta wall has been installed at the Pacific Gate Condominiums.
In the previous post about this project, “Terra Cotta Sun Created for Pacific Gate Condominiums,” you can see the ram-pressed terra cotta units laid out on the factory floor for inspection, mocked up to ensure the precise alignment of individual pieces. This recent installation photo above shows the vision of the architect and the craftsmanship of Boston Valley coming together on site.
