Moxon Street Features a Rich Palette of Glazed Terra Cotta
Situated in London’s eponymous district, Marylebone Square is an innovative take on the traditional mansion block. This exceptional development along Moxon Street, currently expected to be complete Summer 2023, was designed by E8 Architecture on behalf of developer Moxon Street Residential (Luxembourg) SÀRL. Spanning an impressive area of 250,000 SF, the mixed-use block harmoniously combines residential apartments, boutique retail spaces, restaurants, and a community hall which will house one of London’s largest farmers’ markets.

The Marylebone district has a rich and vibrant history that spans centuries. With the expansion of London during the 18th and 19th centuries, Marylebone became a fashionable residential area, attracting wealthy residents and notable figures. Today, the district is renowned for its beautiful Georgian and Victorian architecture, exclusive shopping destinations, cultural institutions, and thriving culinary scene, making it a sought-after destination for locals and visitors alike.
Terra cotta takes center stage at the Moxon Street development, seamlessly blending classical elegance with contemporary sophistication. The exterior façades hold a timeless charm thanks to the extensive use of glazed terra cotta, which is paired with intricate cast metal balustrades. A total of 9,906 profile units were fabricated for this project by Boston Valley, using a combination of extrusion, RAM press, and hand press forming methods. The skill that installation contractor Szerelmey Ltd. brought to the Moxon project team was invaluable, with specialists responsible for the hanging and fixing of the terra cotta cladding.
Boston Valley also developed four custom glaze colors in a warm palette of tan and ivory for Moxon Street. Adding depth and visual interest to the building’s exterior, the glazing technique enhances the terra cotta’s subtle color, creating a captivating interplay of light and shadow across the elevations.
