The Completed TerraClad Wall at the Helen L. & Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion
NYU Langone Health is a well known academic research institution in New York City. Their campus of six inpatient locations in the NY Metropolitan area provide compassionate healthcare services to adults, children, and families in a safe, calming environment. The Helen L. &and Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion opened in 2018 and is the newest addition to their ubiquitous medical campuses. The facility boasts the latest technology in healthcare, described on their website as, “One of the most digitally integrated and sophisticated inpatient facilities in the country.”
Boston Valley Terra Cotta manufactured pieces for the outdoor TerraClad® wall located at one of the building’s entranceways. It provides a soothing aesthetic for patients, doctors, and visitors alike, reinforcing their mission of providing comfort and security through thoughtful design.
Kimmel Pavilion’s terra cotta façade is an intricate mosaic of vertical terra cotta units, in varying size and color. The monochromatic blue color scheme is comprised of six carefully selected glazes created by Boston Valley. Due to the natural variation in the terra cotta glazing process therein lies further nuance with color, allowing for additional visual interest. The individual units have been extruded, which is most efficient forming method for the vertical components in this façade’s design. The installation of the exterior tile wall was completed by Interior Wall Systems, the configuration was determined by Ennead Architects.
