Boston Valley’s Red Terra Cotta Panels for FDNY featured on Brownstoner
Construction on FDNY Rescue Company 2 continues to make progress. In a recent write-up about the building, Brownstoner shows how everything is beginning to come together onsite.
FDNY Rescue Company 2 is a newly constructed training facility in Brooklyn, NY designed by Studio Gang. The unique aesthetic of FDNY 2 lies in its approach to function, how the crew of firefighters will be using the spaces. To accommodate for various emergency situation training, the structure of the building provides opportunity for variety of scenarios.
The structure is made primarily of concrete with a bright red TerraClad® façade. The terra cotta panels manufactured by Boston Valley feature three different red glazes. The variation provides a richness to the façade in its subtlety. Panels were extruded in the factory and sized to fit in particular formations, framing the windows and doors on the building.

…It has been under construction for over two years. The red glazed terra-cotta panels, created from three different shades of red, can now be seen around some of the window and door frames and open areas cut out of the facade, a recent visit revealed. The front firehouse doors have also been installed.
